A Better Breakfast

Don't skip breakfast. Yes, you've heard this one before. But some even advise having a very big breakfast to help minimize cravings throughout the day. Ray & Terry don't recommend a heavy carb intake at breakfast, but they do agree that eating lean protein and filling foods such as soup or salads at the beginning of your day can actually help you stick to a healthier eating plan and reduce your chances of loading up on calories at the end of the day.

A recent pilot study examined the effects of a high protein breakfast on appetite. The researchers found that the individuals who ate more protein for breakfast felt fuller through the day than those that ate a small percentage of their recommended daily protein intake at breakfast.

Looking for breakfast recipe ideas? Eggs won't surprise you, but some of the combinations might.

Artichoke-Scrambled Eggs Benedict From the Eating Well recipe archive uses artichoke bottoms in place of English muffins. Substituting mushrooms for the pancetta yields a vegetarian version of this tasty recipe twist.

A tasty twist on a skillet meal, the Shrimp and Avocado Omelet features fresh salsa and a satisfying 26 grams of protein per serving! We recommend using egg substitute in this dish.

A spicy favorite is the breakfast burrito. Adapt the recipe to healthier guidelines by using egg substitute, low carb wheat tortillas and salmon sausage or tofu instead of traditional sausage. If you have a good quality nonstick pan, you can eliminate the butter/oil (but use extra virgin olive oil if necessary).

Cereals are typically high in carbohydrates and many of them contain sugar and other undesirable ingredients. Instead, you can make your own crunchy breakfast mix with nuts, flax seeds and a little dried fruit. Combine with Greek or soy yogurt and create a healthy parfait. If you have a special breakfast recipe to share, please email us with your ideas.

" I've been using some of Ray & Terry's products and following the diet plan in their book. I've lost 13 pounds in about as many weeks and have rarely felt hungry while doing it. Not feeling hungry while trying to lose weight has never happened to me before in my entire adult life, so this is kind of a miracle for me.
