CoEnzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q 10 or Co Q10 is an antioxidant found naturally in the body. Co Q10 is essential in the manufacture of ATP, our cellular fuel.1 The process of ATP generation involves shuttling electrons through a series of specialized enzymatic steps called the “respiratory electron transport chain.” Through a series of steps, electrons are carried to higher and higher levels of energy until, as a final step, that energy is captured within the chemical bonds of an ATP molecule. Co Q10 serves as an important chaperone for these high-energy electrons and helps guide them through the maze of the electron transport chain.2 Co Q10 is also a powerful antioxidant and helps regenerate vitamins C and E in the body. 3

Dr. Karl Folkers was one of the first to suggest a link between declining levels of Co Q10 and physical decline due to aging. His theory was that since Co Q10 is involved in the production of ATP, any decline would affect the body’s energy production.

The same enzymes in the body that make cholesterol also make Co Q10, so drugs that block these enzymes such as statin drugs will also block Co Q10 formation and deplete the Co Q10 levels in the body.4 Supplementing with Co Q10 will help replace this nutrient in the body.

CoQ10 helps neutralize free radicals at the cellular level. In isolated mitochondria, coenzyme Q10 helps protect membrane proteins and DNA from oxidative damage.5 Coenzyme Q10 is a very desirable nutrient, and, as a preventive measure, we recommend 30 – 60 mg of Co Q10 twice a day.

Dosage: 1-3 softgels once or twice daily or as directed by your healthcare professional.

Ray & Terry's Coenzyme Q10 contains 60 softgels per bottle.

Ray & Terry's Coenzyme Q10 is equally effective when taken with or without food. However, if your digestive system is sensitive, you may want to take your supplements with meals.
