There are three universal supplements recommended for almost everyone over the age of 30, which is as long as we’ve been granted optimal health by our stone age genes. Up until the age of 30, it’s pretty much a free ride, but after that, our caveman and cavewoman bodies are programmed to begin their downward slide and need additional help. Supplementation can play a vital role in helping overcome our outdated genetic programming. The three supplements that Ray & Terry recommend for virtually everyone are a multiple vitamin/mineral formulation, fish oil, and vitamin D.

Daily Multiple Vitamin/Mineral
A multiple vitamin /mineral formulation (“daily multiple”) is necessary to ensure that the raw materials are always available to help your youth-sustaining enzymes function optimally at all times. Studies have shown that 90 percent of Americans are deficient in one or more vitamins or minerals, so by taking a daily multiple, your body can use what it needs and simply discard the rest.

Fish Oil (EPA/DHA)
In addition to eating fish a few times each week, most adults can be helped by taking supplemental fish oil, which is a rich source of the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentanenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). EPA and DHA are precursors to chemicals in the body that help reduce inflammation. Fish oil supplements help preserve the health of many body systems including your brain, skin, heart, joints, and eyes.

Vitamin D
In addition to the vitamin D contained in a daily multiple, most people need additional vitamin D as well. You should measure your current levels with a blood test that you can request from your doctor to determine your ONA. The test you want to ask for is 25-hydroxyvitamin D or 25(OH) D. Normal range for 25(OH) D is listed as 20 to 56 ng/dl, but Ray & Terry recommend a level of 40 – 50.
